From Principal Maldonado:

Greetings Duval MYcroSchool families and Happy New Year!

Parents and students need to ensure that students leave the school no later than 15 minutes after dismissal.  When students are not picked up, do not ride the bus, and are left at the school in an unsafe situation, the school must report it to DCF. We are small and do not have the manpower or budget to pay staff to stay late while students are waiting to be picked up.  Please make transportation arrangements in advance and plan for severe weather and traffic conditions. We appreciate your efforts!

Additionally, all communications will be sent via the school’s Band app.  For questions about the Band app, please email Mr. Booth, Mrs. Waters, or Mr. McDonald at stephen.booth@duvalmycroschool.organne.waters@duvalmycroschool.org, and evan.mcdonald@duvalmycroschool.org:

Teachers are the first point of contact for issues and concerns.  Ensure your student knows who their advisory teacher is.  This person is found on their schedule.  Teacher emails are listed on www.duvalmycroschool.org. The advisory teacher will support them throughout their educational journey, along with the other staff at Duval MYcroSchool.

Parents, please make sure your students are not coming to school with vapes and marijuana.  Bringing a marijuana vape to the school is now a felony according to Florida state statute.  I will not be allowing any snacks or unsealed drinks in the school due to students hiding contraband and illegal substances.  Students are now not allowed to wear facemasks unless they have a doctor’s note because some students are using them to hide vape smoke in the classrooms.  Please support us in keeping the school safe by reading the code of conduct posted on our website in the student handbook and by encouraging your student not to accept any food or drink from anyone except their reward snacks from the principal.  Additionally, adults dropping off students cannot drive onto the parking lot of the school under the influence of any substance, regardless of whether or not you have a medical marijuana card.  It becomes a felony once you drive onto the parking lot of a public school under the influence.

We do follow the district calendar, but due to testing and other academic functions, we have more early dismissal days.  Students will not be allowed in if they are more than fifteen minutes tardy for school.  This policy is in our student handbook on our website and in the Virtual Orientation classroom.

As always, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 904-783-3611.

Monday, May 25, 2026, Duval MYcroSchool is closed for Memorial Day.

Wednesday, May 27, 2026 the window for state assessments closes.

Thursday, May 28, 2026 is the last day of school.

Friday, May 29, 2026, is the graduation at Prime Osborn at 3pm, and students should arrive at 1:45pm.  Rehearsal is  7:45am-9 that morning at Prime Osborn. Families will not be allowed in the venue during rehearsal and before doors open for the ceremony for security reasons.

Students must be present and on time to rehearsal and graduation, or they will not be able to walk in the ceremony. No exceptions. We have limited time in this venue, and we cannot wait for you or interrupt what has already started.  Make transportation arrangements early, as you will be commuting downtown during rush hour.

Doors open to guests at 2:30pm for the actual ceremony.  I caution families to let guests know to be at the graduation on time.  Doors will lock at 3pm per the venue’s safety policy, and no one will be allowed in for security reasons.  JSO and JFRD will be on hand for safety.

Additionally, family members CANNOT copy tickets.  If this is discovered and evidence is presented, family members will be escorted out of the venue.  We have a fire code to abide by, and when guests do this, it compromises safety and other families’ abilities to participate who have legitimate tickets.  I respectfully request that everyone just stick with the tickets they are given as they are catalogued and numbered.  If families arrive at the venue without their tickets, or their tickets have already been accounted for, they will not be allowed in.

We are also unable to provide video streaming services this year, as our vendor canceled this past week, and we were unable to secure another contract in time.  If we all follow the rules, it will be a memorable and special affair!

Thursday, June 11, 2026, is CLT at Duval MYcroSchool, TBA.

Parents and adult students, I DO NOT encourage those students who do not graduate to return to a traditional high school.  This has only worked out once in the history of MYcroSchool for a student under unique circumstances.  Almost always, those students who opt to return to a traditional setting end up getting even farther behind and not graduating.  If you’re considering this, please speak with Ms. Green or me before withdrawing your student so you can make a more informed decision.  Additionally, it is strictly against DCPS policy to walk in a graduation ceremony with a school you are not actually earning a diploma from.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Maldonado or Ms. Green.

As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please respond to evan.mcdonald@duvalmycroschool.org.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rachel Maldonado
